LOLA stands for LOw LAtency Audio Video. It is a high speed audio/video connection that allows for near real time musical performances to occur with musicians across distances of up to 1500 (network) miles with extremely low latency. Depending on how the connection is routed, this could be anywhere from 800 to 1500 geographic miles with the greater distances producing more latency. The effect of having this low latency gives the feeling that the person is in the room with you. For basic comparison, playing with another individual at 20ms latency gives the feeling of being 20 feet apart, while 40ms produces a feeling of being approximately 40 feet apart. The implications of this system for both education, performances, and studio work are incredible.

EOD Studio is proud to be a part of the LOLA-K12 Working group - a gathering of education and technical leaders from around the United States and Italy who are working to deploy LOLA in the K12 environment and beyond.  One of the principle focuses of EOD is to explore how to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas to give artists access to resources not available in their area.  Once we are set up in Kentucky, work will begin to explore the possibilites of LOLA not only in the K12 environment, but in the studio and live performance areas as well.
